Sakae Esuno is the writer and illustrator of the Japanese comic series Future Diary.

Between January 2006 and December 2010, it was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Shonen Ace and collected into 12 tankōbon volumes.

The plot revolves around Saki Morimi, a university graduate. Saki Morimi travels to New York City and, subsequently, to Washington, D.C., for her graduation trip.

During her trip, Saki stumbles into a naked Japanese person who is suffering from amnesia outside the White House.

After collecting Saki’s coat, the man goes to an apartment where he finds many phony passports.

Upon seeing the passports, the man decides to take on the name of Akira Takizawa. Juiz, the concierge, gives the man instructions using the strange cell phone that he took.

Even though Saki tries to ignore it at first, she ends up getting caught up in a terrorist-related death game.

Eden of the East is a good example of an anime like future diary because it also involves a Death Game.

2. Btooom! (2012)

The manga by Madhouse animator Junya Inoue was used as a model for the Japanese action/survival anime show Btooom!

Ryota Sakamoto, one of the world’s best players in the fighting video game Btooom! He wakes up in a real-life version of the game and has to battle for his life.

Ryouta and the others must fight it out until they rise above the rest and are offered the opportunity to leave the island.

The only weapons provided to the players are BIM bombs. There are many similarities between Btooom! and Future Diary, from the survival concept to the action mayhem.

3. Danganronpa: The Animation (2013)

The Lerche anime TV show Danganronpa: The Animation is based on the 2010 visual novel Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc by Spike Chunsoft.

They are also promised success in their future lives since graduates of the school are fast-tracked into high-ranking occupations.

However, upon entering the school grounds, Makoto and his classmates discover that all is not as it appears after meeting the mysterious bear Monokuma.

They learn they will be trapped in the school for the rest of their lives unless they meet Monokuma’s demands.

They must kill other students and avoid being caught by their peers if they wish to leave the school. 

Danganronpa: The Animation is a good example of an anime like Future Diary.

If you’re looking for mind-blowing story twists and turns, Danganronpa and Future Diary both have plenty of them.

4. Death Note (2006 – 2007)

Death Note is a shounen manga series developed by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba.

It began as a manga serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump and has evolved into a live-action Japanese film series.

A high school student named Light Yagami finds a magical notebook that gives him the power to kill anyone.

He is able to kill anybody just by writing the person’s name while imagining their face.

The plot is about his plans to use the notebook to make a New World and become a god.

Light Yagami plans to create a new world that is free of evil. He is also stuck deep in the battle between himself and everyone who tries to stop or support him.

Death Note is one of the best anime like Future Diary, for all things psychological and dark.

Death Note also works well as an anime because it uses wit and intelligence in a great way.

Of course, there is no action, but Death Note’s atmosphere is on pace with, if not greater than, Future Diary.

It would be best to choose Future Diary if you desire more action. The story is a very good example of anime like Future Diary.

5. Steins;Gate (2011)

Steins;Gate is a good example of an anime like Future Diary. The series was directed by Takuya Satō and Hiroshi Hamasaki, and written by Jukki Hanada.

Kyuuta Sakai handled the character design and animation directing, while Takeshi Abo handled the soundtrack.

Okabe Rintaro, a crazy scientist, is the focus of this anime. He is the leader of a team that does numerous scientific investigations.

Despite sometimes seeming meaningless, they achieved their first significant success with their phone microwave.

Igarashi Ganta leads a simple and typical existence until a terrible incident occurs.

A mysterious red man appears out of nowhere and slams into his classroom, killing everyone but him.

After the incident, he gets implicated as the culprit of the mass slaughter in his classroom.

Ganta gets sent to the prison amusement park, where he has to play prison games to stay alive. It won’t be simple at all because enemies lurk among friends.

Both Future Diary and Deadman Wonderland feature a battle royale setting.

A battle royale setting in which the main character must murder the other characters to survive.

7. Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011)

Magi Puella Madoka Magica is a Japanese anime television series produced by Magica Quartet and animated by Shaft. The anime is also known as Madoka Magica.

The plot revolves around a gang of middle school girls, led by heroine Madoka Kaname, who agree to supernatural contracts to become magical girls.

Madoka Kaname is an eighth-grader whose life has thus far been serene, uncomplicated, and filled with love.

One day, a mystery transfer student glares at her, pleading with her not to become involved in anything strange.

The mystery transfer student pleaded with her not to become someone she would regret.

Madoka ignores the warning that was given to her when a mythical creature named Kyuubey approaches her.

Kyueubey promised to grant her one miracle request in exchange for transforming her into a magical girl, and she agreed.

Everything changes dramatically the moment Madoka transforms into a magical girl.

The similarity between Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Future Diary is a massive storyline surprise that ends with a boom.

They have the same surprise (both involve time). It is a great anime and a good example of an anime like Future Diary.

8. Another (2012)

Another is based on a mystery/horror book written in Japanese by Yukito Ayatsuji. The book was released on October 29, 2009, by Kadokawa Shoten.

In the story, the town of Yomiyama has been full of fear since a student died under mysterious circumstances.

The central protagonist of the story is a boy by the name of Kichi Sakakibara.

After Kichi Sakakibara starts at Yomiyama Middle School and meets the curious Mei Misaki, he finds himself in a strange state.

Mei Misaki’s existence makes things even more puzzling for Kouichi Sakakibara. Everyone keeps their distance from her as if she doesn’t even exist.

He begins to get close to her despite others’ warnings to keep away from her. He is unaware that he is getting closer and closer to the gory truth of the Yomiyama.

Another has a lot of gruesome fatalities as well. The subject of death and its repercussions on other people is covered in both anime (Another and Future Diary). Both anime typically have dark themes.

For those who enjoy anime with horrible, twisted ends, for whatever reason, Another is a great choice. It has the same level of grisly deaths as Future Diary.

This is because the characters’ deaths are just as gruesome as those in Future Diary. It is a good example of an anime like Future Diary.

The Japanese horror anime series Shiki is modeled on the novel by Fuyumi Ono of the same name.

The story takes place in a small, quiet Japanese village called Sotoba during a particularly scorching summer in 1994.

A strange family moves into the village, and a series of mysterious deaths start to occur.

When the family first arrived, they moved to the long-deserted Kanemasa mansion on top of a hill. 

Megumi Shimizu, a young girl who wants to leave the village and move to the city, goes to see them but never returns.

She is subsequently discovered lying in the jungle, where she tragically dies.

Toshio Ozaki, a young doctor, and Natsuno Yuki, a city youth, joined forces to uncover the grim reality of the unexplained realities.

Can they accept the truth about why the villagers are dying at the end of their search?

Shiki, like Future Diary, contains themes of darkness and survival. All-out war was played at the finale of Shiki’s story, with numerous deaths.

With death and hopelessness as common themes, both anime make you feel sad and hopeless over and over again. It is a good example of an anime like Future Diary.
