With the ease of a diamond of the first water beautifully sliding onto the ballroom floor, the Netflix adaptation of the famed Julia Quinn novel series rocketed to the streamer’s most-watched list.

With Julie Andrews narrating, Shondaland is producing, and bodice-ripping sexiness featured, it’s not surprising that the show satisfied viewers’ craving for a lighthearted yet meaningful escape.

Bridgerton completely embraces its historical, opulent settings, presenting wigs, palaces, corsets, and even more wigs while modernizing the environment through classical interpretations of popular music, inclusive casting, and a distinct feminine sexual gaze.

Here are some ideas for what to watch next if you enjoyed Bridgerton.

1. Still Star Crossed (2017)

Based on Melinda Taub’s novel of the same name, Still Star-Crossed is a historical drama television series that Shonda Rhimes’ ShondaLand developed for ABC in 2017.

It centers on Rosaline (Lashana Lynch), Juliet’s cousin who once turned Romeo down as a suitor in 16th-century Verona.

Prince Escalus forces her and Benvolio of Montague into an arranged marriage to end the conflict between the two families. Both decide to stop the violence without the union.

2. Sanditon (2019)

Next on our list of movies like Bridgerton is Sanditon. The drama series follows Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) as she moves from her rural home to a bustling seaside resort.

It is loosely based on Austen’s unfinished manuscript Sanditon and The Watsons.

The lively young woman, determined to reinvent herself, unintentionally becomes enamored with the rakish, Mr. Darcy-like Sidney Parker while living with the welcoming Parkers (Kris Marshall and Kate Ashfield) (Theo James).

3. Pride and Prejudice (2005)

If you liked Bridgeton, a Jane Austen adaptation is the next best thing—some could even argue that it’s better.

Early in the nineteenth century, the English author Jane Austen specialized in creating love stories.

In addition to being situated in the same period as Bridgerton, Jane Austen’s writings also have a high-society setting.

Everyone is curious about other people’s personal lives, including who they marry and how wealthy they are.

Pride & Prejudice is arguably Austen’s most well-known novel. Kiera Knightly plays the title role in this version of the book Elizabeth Bennet, and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession, Frost/Nixon) as the dashing Mr. Darcy.

4. Enola Holmes (2020)

Enola Holmes is also one of the movies like Bridgerton. The mystery surrounding Lady Whistledown is one of the main elements of Bridgerton.

This gossipy narrator, an unknown member of high society, spills some of the key characters’ darkest secrets.

As the mystery deepens, Eloise Bidgerton begins her independent investigation.

Enola Holmes is another astute, resolute female investigator from a popular culture who appears in another historical play.

This Sherlock Holmes’ younger sibling sets out on her adventure, beginning her profession as a detective while also challenging the repressive norms that society has for women.

5. Emma (2020)

Emma, an adaptation of a well-known Austen story nominated for Oscars for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Costume Design, is a rich, bright, and vibrant film.

Anya Taylor-Joy portrays Emma Woodhouse as a well-intentioned but ultimately intrusive and complacent young woman who constantly makes more of a mess than she can expect to clean up.

She only learns to keep her distance from other people’s affairs after foolishly attempting to set up her newest protégé Harriet Smith (Mia Goth), with Mr. Elton (Josh O’Connor), an eligible bachelor. Also starring are Bill Nighy, Johnny Flynn, and Gemma Whelan.

This film tells a sweet and surprising love tale while addressing the idea that finding a match is essential.

Taylor Joy keeps showcasing her impressive abilities, and the film also has a fantastic sense of comedy.

6. The Handmaiden (2016)

The Handmaiden is a thriller that is significantly different from Bridgerton in tone, although it is likewise a remake of a British historical fiction book.

This South Korean film is a remake of Sarah Waters’ Fingersmith, but it is set in colonial-era Korea instead of Britain.

The plot centers on a Japanese heiress being conned from her inheritance and her Korean handmaiden. The two women must negotiate the scheming of others around them as they fall in love along the way.

7. Outlander (2014)

Next on our list of movies like Bridgerton is Outlander. We suggest Outlander if you’re seeking a romantic historical drama with a little twist.

In Scotland, shortly after the Second World War, the story begins. Claire Randall, the protagonist, accidentally travels back to the 18th century.

There, she starts a passionate relationship with Jamie, a rebellious Highlander. Both adventure and Claire’s former life quickly call.

Caitriona Balfe (Now You See Me), Sam Heughan (A Princess for Christmas), and Tobias Menzies star in this Starz series (The Crown).

8. Atonement (2007)

Since people in Bridgerton rarely have the chance to follow their hearts in authentic relationships and seem to be cruelly denied true love, romance is not a particularly lovely thing there.

Another historical play, Atonement, explores the unfairness of love. It is a tragic love story with some excellent acting.

9. The Great Gatsby (2013)

The Great Gatsby is also one of the movies like Bridgerton. The main character, a wealthy who meets his neighbor while striving to get in touch with her past true love, is played tragically by Leonardo DiCaprio.

This tale is about people attempting to find their place in the world, sometimes mistaking what that place is meant to be, much like Bridgerton. The film’s opulent aesthetic only enhances how intriguing it is.

10. Belgravia (2020)

The television drama series Belgravia (Epix, 2020) is based on Julian Fellowes’ book of the same name.

The story begins at a ball hosted by the Duchess of Richmond for the Duke of Wellington in Brussels on the eve of the Battle of Quatre Bras, two days before the Battle of Waterloo.

It follows events decades later when the nouveau riche, including the Trenchard family, mingle with London’s established upper classes and old secrets threaten to come to light.

11. The Great (2020)

The Great, a hilarious and self-aware film, runs with the legend of Catherine the Great and Peter III of Russia under the title “an occasionally true story.”

She soon learns that her husband Peter, a nasty ruler who lacks the necessary skills to lead a powerful country, gave her more than she bargained for.

This genre-defying, contemporary account of Catherine’s rise to become a mighty empress.

Written by The Favouritewriter Tony McNamara, spares no one in its dubious historical approach.

12. Little Women (2019)

Next on our list of movies like Bridgerton is Little Women. The characters in Bridgerton have their entire lives predetermined for them, not just their romantic lives.

While Eloise continually fights against the idea that she needs to get married, Anthony Bridgerton does not feel free to pursue his love of art.

The primary character battles societal expectations to become a wife while also pursuing her dream of being a writer. It is a charming, uplifting, and humorous spin on a classic.

13. A Little Chaos (2015)

Feeling alienated from society for various reasons is a frequent issue for the characters in Bridgerton, and Kate Winslet’s Sabine De Barra, the lead in A Little Chaos, also struggles with this.

A Little Chaos, a drama with romantic overtones that follows Sabine as she plans one of the magnificent Gardens of Versailles, was directed by Alan Rickman.

Sabine must carry out her duties while contending with the plans of those pushing for more authority because she is unaccustomed to the aristocratic circles of French society.

14. The King’s Speech (2010)
