This time around, it’s October 31 or Halloween. In addition to being a fun day to dress up and trick or treat, it marks the beginning of the fall movie season. 

Halloween has become a significant event for families across the country. Many parents want their kids to enjoy the festivities without having nightmares afterward. 

Halloween has been one of the most popular films since its release in 1978. It was directed by John Carpenter, who would later Escape from New York. This film was based on the novel “Candyman” by Clive Barker.

How Many Halloween Movies Are There?

So, how many Halloween movies are there? To answer your question, there are 13 Halloween movies. The Halloween movies follow the story of a man holding a knife appearing in a silent John Carpenter film from 1978, which later redefined the Halloween movie subgenre.

Halloween Movies in Order

1. Halloween (1978)

The date was Halloween night in 1963. Judith Myers, 15, was fatally stabbed by her 6-year-old brother, Michael when police were summoned to 43 Lampkin Lane. 

The night before Halloween, Myers escapes from a 15-year institutionalization. The only person aware of what will occur on October 31, 1978, is Dr. Loomis, Myers’ psychiatrist. 

Additionally, he is aware that Michael will return to Haddonfield, but many individuals won’t have time to act before the town learns this. The full cast includes Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tony Moran, and Tim Curry. 

2. Halloween II (1981)

Next on our list of Halloween movies in Order is Halloween II. Michael Myers gets shot by his psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis on October 31, 1978, and then he collapses off a balcony. 

He makes it out alive and flees into the darkness. He murders the teenage girl next door while prowling the alleys after stealing a kitchen knife from an old couple. 

While Loomis and Sheriff Leigh Brackett continue to pursue Michael, Laurie Strode, who narrowly escaped death that night, is transported to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. 

Ben Tramer, a teenager, dressed as Michael, is mistaken for Michael by Loomis, who causes Ben to be struck by a police vehicle and killed by the flames. 

Sheriff Brackett accuses Loomis of killing his daughter Annie and gives up the search after finding out, leaving Deputy Gary Hunt in charge. The full cast includes Nancy Kyes, Donald Pleasence, and Brad Dourif. 

3. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

In 1982, Michael Myers returned to Haddonfield, Illinois, where he brutally killed several teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake. 

Laurie Strode, now pregnant with Michael’s child, goes back to Haddonfield to confront him. She shoots him dead, but not before she loses her baby. 

Laurie takes refuge in the home of her friend, Karen Nelson, who is married to Sheriff Leigh Brackett. Meanwhile, Dr. Samuel Loomis, who is still treating Michael, discovers that Michael is possessed by the spirit of a young boy named Tommy Doyle. 

Tommy had committed suicide years earlier, and Michael’s body is being used to keep Tommy’s soul inside.  

Dr. Loomis tries to convince Sheriff Brackett to help him stop Michael, but Brackett refuses because he wants to protect Laurie. After Michael kills another victim, Loomis finally convinces Brackett to let him kill Michael. 

4. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)

Michael Myers has remained unconscious since his pursuit of Laurie Strode ended on October 30, 1988. (events of H1 and H2). 

Additionally, when he learns that he has a niece in Haddonfield, he awakens during the transport from Richmond Mental Institute to Smith’s Grove. After killing the transfer staff, he manages to flee. 

Jamie, the niece of the Carruthers family, adopted in Haddonfield, continues to have nightmares about Michael (though she is unaware of his identity). 

Furthermore, Jamie and her stepsister Rachel go trick-or-treating on Halloween night, unaware that Jamie’s murderous uncle is pursuing them. 

Dr. Loomis rushes to her rescue and, with Sheriff Meeker’s assistance, begins looking throughout the town for Michael and Jamie to stand guard over her. 

Will anything be able to stop Michael this time? The cast includes John Carpenter, Danielle Harris, and Robert Englund. 

5. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is next on our list of Halloween movies in Order. In 1989, Michael Myers escaped from Smith’s Grove State Hospital and returned to Haddonfield.  

Furthermore, he kidnaps Laurie Strode and holds her hostage in a house in the woods. In addition, the only person who can save Laurie is Dr. Loomis, who must find a way to get into the house without alerting Michael. The fl cast includes Tom Atkins, Bill Thornbury, and Lance Henriksen. 

6. Halloween: The Curse Of Micheal Myers (1995)

Jamie Lloyd has a kid six years after Michael Myers’ most recent murderous spree in Haddonfield, but Michael later murders her. 

However, as a member of the Cult of Thorn, Michael is protected by them and receives the Curse of Thorn from them, which is what causes him to murder his entire family. 

Additionally, moving into the Myers’ home, the Strode Family is being followed by Michael. Therefore, Sam Loomis and Tommy Doyle are currently stopping Michael and the cult, a boy Laurie babysat during Michael’s first rampage. 

Dr. Loomis and Tommy plan to break the curse, overthrow the cult, and defeat Michael. And end his homicidal rampages once and for all as he heads to kill Jamie’s son and the rest of Laurie’s family. The top cast includes Donald Pleasence, Nancy Kyes, and Courtney Cox. 

7. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

The events of Halloween H20 take place twenty years after the events of Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Laurie Strode is now married to Ben Tramer, and they have two children. 

However, one day while Laurie is out shopping, Michael Myers breaks into their home and brutally murders both of their children. 

As a result, Laurie decides to move away from Haddonfield and live with her sister Debra in San Francisco. 

After Laurie leaves, Michael Myers becomes obsessed with her and eventually tracks her down. Furthermore, as a result, Laurie is forced to return to Haddonfield to confront Michael again. The top cast includes Courtney Cox, Neve Campbell, and Donald Pleasence. 

8. Halloween: Resurrection (2002)

Halloween: Resurrection is also on our list of Halloween movies in Order. The feud between Laurie Strode and serial killer Michael Myers is finally put to rest. But will we ever see Myers again? 

Furthermore, in entertainment, reality show producers Freddie Harris and Nora Winston plan to send six thrill-seeking teens into Myers’ boyhood home. 

No one is allowed to leave the house because it is completely covered in cameras, but suddenly Michael gets home! The top cast includes Sheri Moon Zombie, Kane Hodder, and Malcolm McDowell. 

9. Halloween: The Shape Returns (2007)

Haddonfield’s inhabitants are unaware of it, but death is on the way to their quiet, sleepy town. A ten-year-old boy named Michael Myers viciously murdered his stepfather, his older sister, and her lover sixteen years ago. 

Sixteen years later, he escapes the mental hospital and returns to his hometown, intending to go on a murderous spree. 

Dr. Sam Loomis, Michael’s psychologist and the only person aware of Michael’s true evil, pursues him. On the night Michael returns home, a shy girl named Laurie Strode is babysitting somewhere else. 

Furthermore, is it just a coincidence that he is following her and her pals? The top cast includes Danielle Harris, Chris Durand, and Eric Balfour. 

10. Halloween II (2009)

Halloween II is also one of the Halloween movies in Order. This movie was released in 2009 and is the second installment in the Halloween franchise. Furthermore, it takes place five years after the original film’s events. 

Additionally, in 1989, John Carpenter directed another horror sequel ln. In this sequel, Michael Myers escaped from Smith’s Grove State Mental Hospital and returned to Haddonfield. 

He begins killing people who were involved in his previous crimes. The top cast includes Danielle Harris, Judy Greer, and Virginia Madsen. 

11. Halloween (2018)

In 2018, Rob Zombie directed the third entry in the Halloween series. It stars David Arquette, Danny McBride, and Courtney Cox. 

It tells the story of a young couple who moves into an old house where they soon realize that a very dangerous psychopath occupies the place. The top cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, and Billie Lourd. 

12. Halloween Kills (2021)

After leaving the masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie Strode’s basement with her daughter Karen and granddaughter Allyson, Laurie Strode is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and the mistaken belief that she has finally killed her lifelong tormentor. 

However, Michael’s customary slaughter resumes as he escapes Laurie’s trap. The entire town of Haddonfield is motivated to stand up against their unstoppable monster as Laurie battles her pain and gets ready to protect herself from him. 

Additionally, the Strode ladies decide to take matters into their own hands and assemble a vigilante mob that goes on the hunt for Michael once he returns from his initial rampage. The top cast includes Jessica Chastain, James Jude Courtney, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. 

13. Halloween Ends (2022)

Last on our list of Halloween movies in Order. Four years after the events of Halloween Kills, Laurie is wrapping up her memoir while residing with her granddaughter Allyson. 

Since then, nobody has seen Michael Myers. After allowing Michael’s ghost to govern and influence her reality for decades, Laurie has decided to let go of her fear and anger and embrace life. 

However, a wave of violence and panic caused by the accusation that Corey Cunningham, a young man, killed a youngster while the boy was watching him prompts Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t stop once and for all.
