Since the first Resident Evil opened the genre wide open, we’ve been hunting for any excuse to kill, dismember, and humiliate the undead.
So we’ve put up a list of the seven best zombie games for Xbox One right now.
1. Dying Light
Play as Kyle Crane, an undercover operative dispatched to Harran, Turkey, in the midst of a viral pandemic.
Hordes of zombies and vicious human factions have enslaved the city’s residents.
After dusk, venture out at your own risk, as the zombies become significantly more deadly, headed by quick apex zombies that will follow Kyle across Harran’s rooftops.
In Dying Light’s unique mixture of parkour and zombie survival, players will traverse the wide-open environment by racing across roofs, sliding under barriers, and gliding on ziplines.
Dying Light also has an online co-op mode, which puts it among the best zombie games for Xbox One.
In this online co-op mode, players may aid one another through the game or compete against each other in a human versus zombies competitive multiplayer mode.
2. Black Ops Cold War: Outbreak Zombies

It is played in third-person as you and a group of buddies co-op through major infested cities with one goal in mind: survival.
As the outbreak has spread to every corner of the globe, New York, Moscow, Jerusalem, Tokyo, and Marseille each have their own plots and personalities.
Players will have to defend themselves against waves of zombies, with dozens, if not hundreds, charging at them at full speed.
Players in World War Z will be able to pick between seven different classes, each with its own function to perform in the mission:
- The Gunslinger — ranged combat
- The Fixer — engineer/repairs
- The Hellraiser — an explosives expert
- The Medic — team healer
- The Exterminator — crowd control
- The Slasher — melee combat
- The Drone Master — controls both offensive and defensive drones
The most impressive feature of World War Z is its capacity to display 1,000 opponents on the screen at once.
While zombies are extremely easy to kill and minimal gun skill is required to play well, the sheer number of zombies can overwhelm even the most well-coordinated teams.
Aside from PvE Co-op, World War Z has competitive multiplayer modes such as Swarm Deathmatch, Swarm Domination, and King of the Hill in both PvP and PvEvP genres.
4. State of Decay 2
State of Decay 2 is an open-world zombie survival game that focuses more on scavenging and crafting than pure zombie slaying.
It is the sequel to 2013’s first release and the current placeholder as fans wait for the third iteration.
State of Decay 2 is considered to be among the best zombie games for Xbox One as it features players constructing communities, producing resources, and fending off swarms of undead.

You can also put your skills to the test outside of the main campaign in Mercenary Mode, a wave-based, timed survival mini-game that rewards players with equipment to replay the campaign.
6. The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead has established itself as a frontrunner in the zombie genre.
The Walking Dead has made its way into the realm of video games, thanks to AMC’s long-running series and various spin-off projects.
Players will progress through chapters of fascinating stories similar to those found on AMC’s flagship show in this narrative-driven, choice-based game.
The game itself is more in keeping with the comic book storyline that first made The Walking Dead famous.
The Walking Dead was created by Telltale Games in 2012 and has since been released in four full seasons, each with four to six episodes, plus one small season focused on Michonne.
As the game advances, The Walking Dead will keep track of your choices. Like those in many other narrative-choice games, certain selections and speech options will have positive or negative consequences later in the game.
Throughout the game, players will take control of Lee Everette and Clementine as they fight for survival in a world filled with walkers and violent survivors.
You’ll be able to search specific regions for things and converse with NPCs using a variety of chat options.
However, the majority of the game is based on quick-decision button commands and challenging choices that can change the story’s trajectory.
7. The Evil Within 2
The Evil Within 2, the sequel to the same-named game from 2014, is the apex of horror games.

Four people, however, discover they are immune and must utilize this ability to protect the survivors, figure out what’s going on, and eventually find a way out.
This is the game for you if a zombie apocalypse is your thing. To argue that Dead Island is a perfect zombie game would be an exaggeration.
We cannot, however, assert that it is without flaws. This first-person adventure takes place in a tropical paradise filled with decaying corpses, all of whom are waiting for their heads to be smashed off with a bat or chainsawed.
If you can find the parts, you’ll have to build your own zombie-killing devices.
At the end of the day, Dead Island is a role-playing game and one of the best zombie games for Xbox One.
As a result, the main source of enjoyment is the fact that the level of weapons improves as the story progresses.
It would be best if you upgraded your weapons on a frequent basis because they degrade with time.
On the other hand, Dead Island is one of the greatest games for slaying zombies with melee weapons.
Although it may sound cynical, driving your knife into a decaying skull to kill it is a very rewarding experience.
9. Dead Rising 4
Back in the day, the sheer amount of walking dead depicted on-screen in the original Dead Rising would overwhelm us.
Nonetheless, despite significant technological advancements and dwindling numbers of zombie-freaks, this game remains one of the most enjoyable zombie-killing adventures available today!
Simply put, it’s a meat grinder game with nonstop zombie slaying and ingenious weaponry manufactured from the most unlikely of materials.
Despite the constant swarms of the undead rushing at him, and despite the fact that the bosses are virtually identical to those in the first Dead Rising, the bewildering array of weaponry available will make smashing through guts and flesh perfectly justified.
10. Resident Evil 2
The 2019 recreation of Resident Evil 2 is much more than a zombie game, but that’s the core of it.
You’ll fight your way through Raccoon City Police Department and a variety of other locations as Leon or Claire, battling hideous zombie adversaries along the way.
In Resident Evil 2, true horror is the order of the day. It’s less about fighting through swarms of undead and more about sneaking past strange foes.
It’s stressful, it’s frightening, and it’s all the more wonderful for it. We’re not sure if Mr. X is a zombie or not, but we’re not here to debate semantics.
To put it another way, he isn’t totally human. And if he’s chasing you, you’d better get out of dodge.
Resident Evil 2 deserves praise for bringing the Resident Evil zombies back to life.
They’re not particularly quick, but if you don’t shoot them in the head, they’ll simply devour your ammo.
If they seize you, you’d better hope you have a defense item on hand. Resident Evil 2 isn’t only one of the best Xbox One zombie games; it’s also the best Resident Evil game of all time.
11. Zombie Army Trilogy
As the name implies, you’re up against an army of the undead, not one, not two, but an army of the undead.
The action takes place in 1945, during World War II, in the middle of the Nazi onslaught.
As the enemy is blasting up berlin, Hitler is hiding within his bunker.
Hitler, as is typical of tyrant tyrants, executes an officer who tried to persuade Hitler to surrender and demands that “Plan Z” be implemented.
The dead army of troops rises up as Zombies as a result of this.
As a result of his possession of a relic, Hitler’s assumption that he would be protected and uninjured backfires.
However, it is discovered that three pieces of the relic are required for it to function. His creations have overtaken him.
Apart from the other armada, Hitler’s forces now have to contend with zombie armies as well.
Hitler would be unable to win the war as a result of this. Are you, on the other hand, capable of surviving the carnage?
One of the unique aspects of this game is that you don’t have to be on the zombies’ opposing team to win.
You can play as a member of the zombie army by turning into a zombie. This new twist is unheard of in the zombie gaming world, and it’s been a long time since anything like it has appeared.

12. 7 Days to Die
Seven Days to Die, one of the top games of 2016, is a favorite among Xbox gamers.
A gripping novel about a Zombieland catastrophe set in the supernatural zone—the gamer can take on the role of the hero who must save the planet in 7 days and prove his worth.
The developers’ decision to move the game from a personal computer to an Xbox platform paid off handsomely.
You must explore the entire world, either alone or with friends, and develop weapons, tools, and shelter to protect yourself from the horrors of infected fauna, reanimated dead, and even the earth itself.
