Werewolves are legendary creatures that are frightening as hell, but unfortunately, don’t get the credit they deserve.
Face it, be it in books, for Halloween costumes, and in gaming, they always take the backseat to other creatures and monsters like vampires, zombies, dragons, etc.
So, I’ve taken it upon myself to remind everyone just how awesome werewolves are with a list of the best werewolves video games.
10 Best Werewolves Video Games
I have listed out the best games featuring werewolves as main, or semi-important, in no particular order.
1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is probably one of the best, if not the best, fantasy games of all time, which is probably why even after eleven years, the game continues to make waves in the gamer community.
While there isn’t a specific stage or battle featuring werewolves, you can become a werewolf during certain quests.
How cool is that! If your character contracts lycanthropy, it becomes cursed with werewolf transformations.
Becoming a werewolf comes with perks like a rise in carry weight, resistance to diseases, and more damage. More than that, it’s super fun to demolish others and monsters as a werewolf.
2. The Wolf Among Us
If you’re a fan of choice-driven games, then you’ll love the wolf among us. This game features Bigby, a werewolf who was once the villain of fairy tales but now is the sheriff of Fabletown.
In this game, you’ll play as Bigby to solve crimes with the evil mayor to protect the town.
The best part about this game, besides playing as a cool werewolf, is that this game takes on a unique and dark spin on fairy tales, which most of you know and love.
3. Blood of the Werewolf
Blood of the Werewolf is a relatively new platform game in which players play as Selena, a mother, wife, and werewolf.
You’ll go on a quest to rescue your kidnapped son and take revenge on the monsters who slew your husband.
Not only is Selena a ferocious werewolf, but she’s also just as badass in her human form; shooting deadly arrows from her crossbow while human to taking down bad guys with a single swipe when moonlight hits.
Making an extremely likable main character with gameplay variety makes this one of the most enjoyable werewolves video games.
4. Bloodborne
Bloodborne is full of disturbing aesthetics and frightening monsters; this isn’t a game you would want to miss out on.
With immersive worlds, exploration, detailed battles, and ghouls crossing your path while you try to understand the story and grapple with monsters triple your size.
Especially the werewolf at the start of the game.
While you can’t play with werewolves, you do come across wild and aggressive ones that want to tear you to shreds during their exploration.
5. Werewolf the Apocalypse: Earthblood
As most of you would tell from the title, this is a game entirely about werewolves. This game takes place in the world of darkness universe, where gamers play as Cahal, an Irish werewolf part of an Irish tribe.
With its dark, mysterious, and other-worldly atmosphere, this game has to be one of the best in werewolves video games.
6. Contra: Hard Corps
Contra: Hard Corps is a side-scrolling, run-and-gun video game released for Sega Genesis in 1994. This game features Brad Fang, the coolest of all werewolves, a sunglasses-wearing werewolf cyborg who has a gun for an arm.
Not only are all of the characters plain awesome, but the game is also action-packed and has excellent graphics for its time and a balanced difficulty level.
7. Werewolf: The Last Warrior
A platform game that came debuted in 1990, this has to be one of the first games starring a werewolf.
In this game, you play as Ken, a human who can quickly turn into a werewolf to fight evil mutants. This game took an interesting spin on the werewolf genre.
Instead of moonlight triggering the transformation, it’s instead done by obtaining a red ‘W’ to turn into a werewolf called ‘warwolf’, and getting blue ‘W’s will turn you back into a man.
8. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Just seeing the main artwork for this game, can users realize that Link can turn into a wolf in this Legend of Zelda.
In certain parts, players turn into ‘wolf link’, a wolf state where they can communicate with other animals and solve fun puzzles.
While this game doesn’t pack the same gore or throw horrifying scares at you, nor is it one of the usual werewolves video games that we’re accustomed to, it’s a unique werewolf game in its own right.
9. Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
In this game, players control Cornell, the main protagonist, a werewolf, who is on a mission to save his sister, Ada, from being sacrificed to revive Dracula.
This is a fun supernatural adventure that surrounds the story as old as time; vampires vs. werewolves. While cliche, this is an exciting werewolf game to check out.
10. Nightmare Creatures
Nightmare creatures is a terrifying survival game that all 90’s kids would remember. While the graphics and effects may seem outdated by modern standards, back in the day, this game could scare the toughest.
While this game features many monsters, one of the lethal werewolves would be memorable for most people.
Fighting a brutal werewolf with no tricks, only strategy and skills alone in a dark, supernatural ambiance sounds like a great time to me!
