The Jaws is an exciting horror movie series featuring an enormous white shark and its murderous attacks on people in different areas of the United States and the Bahamas.

Jaws has different movies that have been released at different periods and dates. In this article, I have arranged the Jaws movie in order of their release dates to guide you when watching the movie for a better understanding and assimilation of the movie.

How Many Jaws Movies Are There?

The Jaws movie based on Peter Benchley’s novel of the same name currently has four(4) films in the movie franchise.

From 1975 till date, the Jaws movie in order of their year of release includes Jaws (1975), followed by Jaws 2 in 1978 and then Jaws 3-D in 1983, and lastly, Jaws: The Revenge in 1987. 

In 2018, one of the directors of Jaws movie, Stephen Spielberg, expressed his interest in producing another Jaws movie in the coming future, but he is not sure yet.

Jaws Movie in Order

1. Jaws (1975)

In Amity Island, a little town whose beaches are its primary source of revenue, Martin Brody, the new sheriff, immediately thinks of closing the beaches to swimmers after finding the remains of a shark attack victim.

Mayor Larry Vaughn and a few other businesspeople in the area are unhappy about this. As a small child is slain that weekend by the predator, Brody recoils out of regret. 

However, Amity quickly becomes overrun with inexperienced hunters and fishermen eager to take advantage of the shark bounty placed by the slain boy’s mother. 

Quint, a well-known shark hunter in the area, offers to capture the animal for a sizable amount. 

An Agent from the  Oceanographic Institute, Matt Hooper, with Quint and Brody, set out at sea searching for the Great White shark; Brody sums it up: “They’re going to need a bigger boat.” This is the first film in the Jaws movie in order of their production date.

2. Jaws 2 (1978)

Four years have passed since the terrifying events at Amity Island, where a great white shark measuring 25 feet long scared beachgoers. 

After the shark was eliminated, Amity Island was at peace, and the Holiday Inn was converted into a hotel. 

Days after the hotel had been opened, beachgoers started to vanish along with a not entirely eaten killer whale that had been beached. 

As a result of those encounters, Brody began to worry that another tremendous white might be on the prowl again.

This thriller and adventure movie is the second Jaws movie in order of their release date and production.

3. Jaws 3-D (1983)

Mike and Sean, Brody’s sons, currently hold various positions at Sea World Orlando, years after Brody electrocuted the shark at Cable Junction. 

Mike is a park engineer considering marrying killer whale biologist Kathryn Morgan. Sean has a relationship with Kelly Ann Bukowski, one of the water skiers at the park. 

A massive “Undersea Kingdom” at Sea World is soon to open, bringing guests closer than ever to aquatic life. Some gates lead from the ocean to the park, but one of them is broken, allowing the passage of a young great white shark.

Kathryn makes every effort to preserve the juvenile Great White after it is captured and put in a tank, but it eventually dies and its gigantic 35-foot mother, which pursued it into the lagoon, soon starts to cause havoc in the park.

 Mike and Kathryn, Sea World manager Calvin Bouchard, and photographer Phillip Fitzroyce must figure out how to get rid of the shark before they or the visitors end up as the shark’s next meal. This is the third Jaws movie in order of their year of release.

4. Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

  • Directed by: Joseph Sargent.
  • Casts: Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, Karen Young, Judith Barsi, Michael Caine, Lynn Whitfield.

Sean Brody has come back to Amity after his Sea World shark experience. Here, he has taken on his father’s profession as a police officer and is engaged to Tiffany. 

Ellen, his mother, is still a resident of Amity. Mike Brody is now a husband to Carla, and together with Jake, the two are conducting research on conch snails in the Bahamas. 

One night, while working on a buoy from the police boat in Amity Harbor, Sean is ambushed from below and killed by a Great White shark, a long-time foe of the Brody family.

Following the funeral, Ellen begs Mike to remain off the sea, but he insists, taking Ellen, along with his wife and Thea, their daughter, to the Caribbean. Meanwhile, Ellen tries to live life again and meets beautiful pilot Hoagie. 

In the water, Mike and Jake come upon the Great White Shark, which they tag and follow for scientific purposes. 

However, the shark soon begins to cause trouble and pursues Thea on a banana boat excursion. This is the last sequel in the Jaws movie in order of their release date and production.
