The Princess Bride is a film sure to satisfy everybody. It is a jam full of fighting, vengeance, true love, miracles, and monsters. Honestly, if you or your spouse has not seen the Princess Bride, stop reading this post and turn it on. It is one of the most romantic movies to watch with your spouse.
This film is a true classic, and I guarantee that you two will appreciate its cultural significance at the very least.
2. When in Rome
If you believe in fate and your spouse does not then watch this movie together. While this might always make him think fate is cheesy and not for guys like him, at least if you believe in it, you have shown him what might happen.
At least you also get to watch Josh Duhamel being his hunky self, if that somehow will not cut it. Even if he does not believe in love spells, you will hope your spouse gets the drift to be romantic.
3. Sleepless in Seattle
Sleepless in Seattle, a classic Nora Ephron movie that begins with American sweethearts Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, is a romantic comedy without the overdone, overused rom-com formula. Ephron’s dialogue is what I love most, and it is funny and clever but also totally connected.
If you want to please your spouse with your brilliant sense of humor and your perfect movie choice, this movie is for you.
4. Slumdog Millionaire
This movie is an unceasing testament to how your life can be changed by game shows like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Uh, well, no. Seriously, with their casting choices, this film is one of those intelligently done films that break the mold.
Slumdog billionaire is one of the great movies to watch with your spouse,
The story shows a boy in the slums and his path to be part of the infamous game show, winning it unexpectedly and winning the heart of his beloved. Overall, if you and your spouse want to have smart discussions about Hollywood and socioeconomic issues, it is a great movie.
5. 50 First Dates
So your spouse likes to remind you that you are so forgetful? Then hit your couch together, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the flick of Adam Sandler. Enjoy the laughter you share with the ever-present Rob Schneider in the cast, in particular.
This movie is about a playboy who, due to an accident, falls in love with a girl with no short-term memory. Now, just like what you want your spouse to do with you, it is up to the guy to make the girl fall in love with him every day.
6. The Wedding Singer
I was never an Adam Sandler fan of any kind, but The Wedding Singer is just so adorable that I can’t help but love it! The settings of the ’80s are just so enjoyable. It is surprisingly well-written as well! Personally, I believe that Drew Barrymore is lovely and that the supporting cast is so lovely that you just want to hug them. Since you just can’t hug through the TV, you will just have to hug your spouse instead!
7. Confessions of a Shopaholic
Make your spouse watch this movie if you want him to understand how you blew your credit card over a pair of boots. This movie follows a shopping addict who tries to stay out of debt and accomplish her dreams of becoming a writer for a famous fashion magazine, based on the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. But a relentless debt collector is hot on her heels all the time.
In comparison to other kinds of damsel-in-distress, the heroine gets out of trouble and charmingly bags her prince in the end.
8. Roxanne
Roxanne is based on an old French play called “Cyrano de Bergerac.” The modern take on the story features Steve Martin as a firefighter with an insane giant nose who is in love with the beauty of the town. It is a lotta sweet and a little screwball.
This film is in Steve Martin’s perfect fashion and will leave you feeling fuzzy and warm inside.
9. Pretty Woman
Southern belle-turned street hooker encounters Playboy billionaire who won’t commit. An unlikely pair, okay, but it is working! This classic romantic film stars Richard Gere and Julia Roberts and explores how in the most outrageous settings and in the most unlikely couple, love flourishes.
And if your guy didn’t take you on a shopping spree the way Gere’s character did for Roberts’, maybe it would be easier for your guy to think again.
10. Begin Again
One of my favourite 2013 movies was Begin Again. This movie has a dream team cast – Mark Ruffalo, Keira Knightly, James Cordon, Hailee Steinfield, Adam Levine, the list goes on and on. The story follows Ruffalo and Knightly’s characters as they record an album on the streets of New York.
It is so stinking good and so refreshing. It will make you want to get up and have a cute girl (or boy) dance with you!
11. Love and Basketball
If your guy is a fan of basketball, then he probably wouldn’t whine if you let him watch it. Or at least he is going to try to be involved. When it comes to attracting the males, the underlying sports theme is actually very decent, plus the movie is romantic and mushy enough for the ladies, making this film a win-win.
So, keep it on your list of Netflix movies to watch with your spouse.
12. Titanic
A masterpiece, of course. This movie is directed by James Cameron and doesn’t even have to pretend to be part of the list. It is just a beautiful, heart-warming-and-then-heart-crushing story about two people from different social backgrounds who meet in a big boat, only to be torn apart by tragedy.
Excellently created, with several memorable scenes, such as when Rose, played by Kate Winslet, is drawn by Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jack. Your spouse would definitely love to watch the film a few more times just for this scene.
13. Bringing Up Baby
One of the first romantic comedies ever made was Bringing Up Boy. Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant make you forget that black and white movies are anything but normal. This romantic comedy allows you to ease the many pain and discomfort that you face early in your relationship.
Give it a try if you are feeling a little nostalgic and adventurous. I believe you are not going to be disappointed.
14. My Best Friend’s Wedding
This film, another of Julia Roberts’ best performances, actualizes the idea that there is really no such thing as male-female friendship because, inevitably, one falls for the other. And in this movie, one did, and it was nearly too late.
Roberts’ character comes into the picture in the middle of all the kerfuffle for what would have been a beautiful wedding and a lovely couple, bent on sabotaging the wedding.
However, all her scheming proved futile. And after only a short time, a testament that true love still evolves.
15. Hitch
A little run-of-the-mill rom-com, in the lead role, this movie stars Will Smith. He helps guys get their moves moving and snag their dream ladies. However, when he attempts to woo Eva Mendes, Smith himself is a far cry from suave and smooth. If you want to give your guy a few tips on how to win your heart, then you have to watch this movie.
16. The Tourist
Your spouse will like the guesswork in The Tourist if he is not into cheesy, boring rom-com. This cat-and-mouse story puts in the center a mysterious woman played by Angelina Jolie, as she seems to be leading not only the character of Johnny Depp but the chasing authorities. Plus, Venice and Paris are just as amazing and romantic as the locations.
17. When Harry Met Sally
This is my all-time favorite movie. I can say this is the mother of all romantic comedies, making rom-com what they are today. This is the initial tale of how to make it out of the friend zone. In reality, this is the first film I will show any future suitor to make sure they enjoy it because if they don’t, it means that I can’t date them as they are a dud. This is a serious business movie because it is just so sweet!
18. You’ve Got Mail
This is probably the sappiest movie on this list, but Tom and Meg’s chemistry is so perfect that you can’t help but smile through the whole film. The end, moreover, is so, so sweet. It will leave you for hours in a cuddly mood… if you know what I mean.
19. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
In this unconventional disaster movie, Keira Knightly and Steve Carell make the perfect unlikely couple. They are flawless. This movie is flawless. Just watch it. Be warned: the end will make you weep like an infant.
20. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
This movie is worth watching many times, with the ageless and charming Kate Hudson coupled up with hunky fellow A-lister Matthew McConaughey. Hudson is just glowing, and McConaughey is every man’s man, making this flick work for real. They show that love can also happen in just 10 days, amid all the mind games, trickery, and war of wills of both endearing characters!
21. One Day
Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway star in this 2011 romantic drama about a sort of couple who reunite every year on the same day. Dexter and Emma plan to meet the following year again after spending a fateful night together on July 15, 1988, to see how their post-graduation lives have come along.
Their meetings turn into annual events, some loving, some tension-filled, all leading up to one last July 15.
22. Julie & Julia
Speaking of cooking, when the food on screen actually makes you hungry in real life, it is always a plus. At the same time, this delectable comedy tells the tale of Julie (Amy Adams with a bad haircut), a food blogger, and Julia Child (Meryl Streep), one of the most beloved chefs in the world.
The romance here lies in Streep and Stanley Tucci’s seriously sweet pairing as her husband. Honestly, you can only skip parts of Julie.
23. Jerry Maguire
Is Jerry Maguire the film that Tom Cruise acted in? Perhaps, maybe not. But his guttural cry of “Show me the money!” “will go down in history as one of the most thrilling scenes in the cinema. As Renee Zellweger’s co-star will utter, “You had me at hello,” before Jerry and Dorothy’s pair ended up together in the end.
24. Chasing Amy
Chasing Amy, one of the classics of director Kevin Smith’s 90s, features Ben Affleck as a comic book writer who wants to be involved in a relationship with a lesbian woman named Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams). Jason Lee, who is secretly in love with him, co-stars as Affleck’s co-writer.
The film has a lot to say about slut-shaming, attraction, fluidity, and sexual orientation. For a sexy night, Surefire hit.
25. About Time
Domhnall Gleeson features as a pleasant young man whose father (Bill Nighy) tells him on his 21st birthday that the men of his family have the hidden power to travel back in time. He falls in love with Mary (Rachel McAdams) and uses his abilities to make his life easier.
Trust me when we say this is the best time travel love story starring Rachel McAdams. It is one of those nice movies to watch with your spouse on Netflix, too.
26. Kate & Leopold
This time travel romantic comedy features Hugh Jackman as a rich duke from 1876 who is transported through time to the present day and falls in love with a very contemporary career woman played by Meg Ryan.
The laughter here comes from Jackman’s complete mastery of the manners of the 19th century and the shenanigans of modern life’s mom-mastery of the duke. Plus, in the costume, he’s completely swoony; he should actually do more period pieces.
27. The Theory of Everything
Science is absolutely sexy! The love story between physicist and astronomer Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane is told in this drama. For his depiction of Hawking, Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor at the Academy Awards, with Felicity Jones winning a nod for Best Actress.
Even if you are not terribly into the cosmos or astrophysics, their tale or survival through the diagnosis of Hawking’s ALS is very touching.
28. Downton Abbey
This movie is similar to Bridgerton. Downton Abbey centers on an aristocratic family in England, but it also examines the lives of the servants working for them and offers viewers a slightly different viewpoint on the upper class.
You are sure to get pulled into this beloved British import with six seasons, a spin-off film, and multiple Golden Globes and Emmys to its credit.
