7 Gangster Movies on Showtime

Gangster Movies on Showtime

Are you fascinated by the gangster movie genre? We’ve listed the gangster movies on Showtime below.

The gangster movies have centered on dark and dangerous characters involved in everything from Prohibition, the mafia, and drugs.

They have enabled actors to develop timeless characters and provided fertile ground for directors to produce storylines that have become classics.

Showtime is a long-standing competitor in the premium cable market with a name that almost ensures you’ve heard of it.

It’s keeping up with the trend and competing for your home viewing heart with a superb streamer among its offers.

Here are the gangster movies on Showtime:

1. Green Room (2015)

This is the director’s follow-up to the (also fantastic and intense) Blue Ruin. Like that movie, Green Room frequently defies preconceptions of its genre. The real story is that a lefty punk band in need of money ends up playing at a skinhead club.

The band’s performance is booming, but they are stranded in the club’s green room after unintentionally witnessing something inappropriate.

Because you genuinely care about what happens to the characters, this movie is violent and intense. Bonus: Sir Patrick Stewart portrays the organization’s leader and turns in a subtly offensive performance.

Even though some genuinely appalling acts of violence occur (particularly in the movie’s second half), they advance the plot.

However, a few sequences can make more delicate viewers cover their eyes.

  • IMDb Rating:  7.6/10
  • Actors: Alia Shawkat, Anton Yelchin, Callum Turner, David W. Thompson, Eric Edelstein, Imogen Poots, Jeremy Saulnier.
  • Director: Jeremy Saulnier

2. Logan Lucky (2017)

Actors Channing Tatum and Adam Driver’s two brothers resolve to plunder the Charlotte Motor Speedway, a nearby NASCAR race.

They assembled a crew to aid them, with Katie Holmes serving as the gateway driver. With Daniel Craig serving as the demolition specialist. It is among the gangster movies on Showtime.

Seth MacFarlane, Hilary Swank, and Steven Soderbergh, also known for the films Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Thirteen are some well-known individuals associated with this project. The primary characters are upbeat and just somewhat silly to be unanticipated.

Their theft is equally disorganized and random, invariably producing many humorous moments. The entire group gives incredible performances; Daniel Craig is hardly recognizable.

  • IMDb rating:  7.7/10
  • Actors: Adam Driver, Alex ter Avest, Ann Mahoney, Autumn Dial, Boden Johnston, Brandon Ray Olive, Brian Allen.
  • Director: Steven Soderbergh

3. Good Time (2017)

Next on our list of gangster movies on Showtime is Good Time. Good Time is a fast-paced thriller about a bank robbery gone awry.

Also, one brother tries to get his other brother out of jail in its aftermath. According to its directors, the movie is “really dangerous.”

During this swift dive into New York’s criminal underground, you won’t have time to take a single full breath. Without exaggeration, this beat is unlike anything I’ve ever heard or seen.

Therefore, it makes me nervous and is really… primitive. Fantastic work with a career-changing performance from Robert Pattinson.

Robert Pattinson is a renegade criminal who will stop at nothing to get his brother free.

  • IMDb Rating: 8.1/10
  • Actors: Barkhad Abdi, Ben Safdie, Benny Safdie, Buddy Duress, Cliff Moylan, Craig muMs Grant, Dorothy Fox.
  • Director: Ben Safdie, Benny Safdie, Josh Safdie, Joshua Safdie

4. Prophet’s Prey (2015)

The film Prophet’s Prey examines the Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints cult and its founder, Warren Jeffs. Jeffs has exploited the premise that he had an inherited direct link to God to manage a closed society of thousands of people.

Also startlingly personally, as well as to marry numerous underage girls and use the neighborhood’s financial resources for “the church.”

Amy Berg, the director, handles the subject skillfully (Deliver Us From Evil). Here, she uses interviews with the people whose tenacity helped expose Jeffs to tell most of the narrative.

Along with film footage of current FLDS villages, the film also has the eerie, disembodied voice of Jeffs speaking to his followers in recorded form.

Furthermore, the image of a dangerous lunatic who continues to have a disturbing degree of control over hundreds of engaged worshippers appears. Captivating.

  • IMDb Rating: 8.4/10
  • Actors: Nick Cave
  • Director: Amy J. Berg

5. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

This movie is a humorous take on film noir and detective films in general and marks Robert Downey Jr.’s triumphant return to the big screen. It is one of the gangster movies on Showtime.

The on-screen chemistry between Downey Jr.’s robber-turned-actor Harry Lockhart and Val Kilmer’s private eye Gay Perry is hilarious, and the film’s tongue-in-cheek tone is clever, innovative, and effective.

Furthermore, the action is first-rate, there are a lot of laughs, and the mystery is intriguing in this film directed by the same person who made Lethal Weapon. Incredibly, no one noticed this when it first came out.

  • IMDb Rating: 8.6/10
  • Actors: David Newsom, Evan Parke, Harrison Young, Dash Mihok, Indio Falconer Downey, Angela Lindvall, Ariel Winter.
  • Director: Shane Black

6. Headhunters (2012)

Fasten your seatbelts for this nefarious little chase film, which has plenty of dark humor from Norway and balls-to-the-wall action and will jerk the wheel at the wrong time.

Headhunters is a nasty, insane, and wonderfully good film based on a book by the nation’s most well-known crime author, Jo Nesb.

This suspenseful thriller follows a corporate recruiter (Aksel Hennie) who steals works of art every night as a covert side business.

The charming Clas Greve, a Dutch businessman portrayed by no other than Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, ends up pursuing him.

And without the story taking a turn in a different direction; this is the extent of the storyline summary. The pace of Headhunters never slows unless it wants to further unsettle you with building tension.

Therefore, expect tremendous amusement, like a Lars von Trier on speed, along with all the natural colors, emotion, and somewhat off-kilter characters you desire from a Norwegian production.

  • IMDb Rating: 8.9/10
  • Actors: Eivind Sander, Gunnar Skramstad Johnsen, Joachim Rafaelsen, Julie R. Olgaard, Kyrre Haugen Sydness.
  • Directors: Morten Tyldum

7. Victoria (2015)

Last on our list of gangster movies on Showtime is Victoria. Like Berlin’s legendary nightlife, which serves as the story’s backdrop, this daring German real-time drama will devour you and spit you out.

A runaway Spanish girl named Victoria joins a group of four rowdy young men after leaving a nightclub at 4 a.m.

They climb rooftops and drink beer while walking through the city’s moonlit streets. The gang’s humorous banter is skillfully improvised from a sparse script, while Niels Frahm’s bad original score serves as a counterpoint.

But what begins as late-night fun quickly deviates into more sinister terrain. Victoria becomes involved in an alarming chain of events after being hired as a getaway driver for an unprepared bank robbery due to her obsession with the pack leader Sonne, played by Frederick Lau.

What appears to be a typical crime drama is a startling cinematic experiment. The movie’s production, shot in one take, on location, and in real-time, was a risk, but director Sebastian Schipper more than succeeded.

Sturla Brandth Grvlen’s cramped camerawork makes the viewer feel like a helpless bystander to Victoria’s predicament.

The high-wire acting of the significant cast only enhances the impact of Laia Costa’s mesmerizing lead performance.

The heart-stopping drama Victoria is an excellent debut for a director and an engaging experience.

  • IMDb Rating: 9.8/10
  • Actors: Adolfo Assor, Andre Hennicke, Anna Lena Klenke, Burak Yigit, Daniel Fripan, Eike Frederick Schulz, Eike Frederik Schulz.
  • Directors: Sebastian Schipper
