Well, the year is almost over, and there are a lot of 2022 horror movies to get our hearts racing.

Whether you like horror movies or just want to have a scary movie marathon with your friends and need new ideas, you’ll be more than happy with how scary this year’s horror movies are.

Fresh makes people worry about modern dating, and the remake of Scream brings back one of the most famous characters in the history of horror movies.

And the good news is that fans of scary movies can keep their hopes up for the rest of 2022.

These are some of the 2022 horror movies you can watch.

1. Scream

  • Directors: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett
  • Star casts: Jenna Ortega, Mikey Madison, Melissa Barrera, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox
  • IMDb rating: 6.3/10

Scream is one of the first 2022 horror movies. In the fifth movie in the horror series, which is set twenty-five years after the first, a new Ghostface killer is looking for victims with ties to the first one.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are among the original cast members who are coming back. On the other hand, we’ll meet some interesting locals in Woodsboro.

Many talented actors will portray these roles, like Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding,  Jack Quaid, Dylan Minette, Jenna Ortega, and others.

2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

  • Director: David Blue Garcia
  • Star casts: Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Elsie Fisher, Olwen Fouéré, Moe Dunford, Nell Hudson.
  • IMDb rating: 4.7/10

The original slasher movie franchise has returned. However, this time, it will only be available on Netflix.

The first film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, was released in 1974, and this film is a direct sequel to that film.

The plot of this film centers on Leatherface and a new group of victims who unintentionally interrupt his house.

Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, and Nell Hudson are among the actors that have been cast.

3. Fresh

  • Director: Mimi Cave
  • Star casts: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sebastian Stan, Charlotte Le Bon, Brett Dier, Andrea Bang, Jonica T. Gibbs.
  • IMDb rating: 6.7/10

Fresh is a perfect fit for one of the 2022 Horror Movies. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan star in this rom-com turned-cannibal-nightmare.

For 33 minutes, the movie does a great job of building up a budding romance, but then it takes a sharp turn and opens with a darkly funny credit sequence.

Stan goes completely off the rails as an illegal salesman falling a little too hard for his latest source of human meat.

Edgar-Jones is brave as the woman trying to lead an escape, and Lauryn Kahn’s script avoids choices that would make her lead seem too trusting.

Even though the ending is violent and gives justice a bitter taste, “Fresh” keeps going strong in one of these 2022 Horror Movies.

4. Morbius

  • Director:Daniel Espinosa
  • Star casts: Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Michael Keaton, Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris.
  • IMDb rating: 5.2/10

The biochemist Michael Morbius is at the center of one of the spine-chilling 2022 Horror Movies from marvel, which stars Jared Leto from “House of Gucci.”

Unfortunately, things go wrong when he attempts to treat his uncommon blood condition by turning himself into a vampire.

“The line between hero and the bad guy will be broken,” says the trailer’s official description. This movie is one of the top 2022 Horror Movies.

5. You Won’t Be Alone

  • Director: Goran Stolevski
  • Star casts: Noomi Rapace, Alice Englert, Sara Klimoska, Anamaria Marinca, Carloto Cotta, Arta Dobroshi
  • IMDb rating: 6.3/10

You Won’t Be Alone is one of the top 2022 horror movies, set in a small country village in Macedonia in the 1800s.

Macedonia is a small country in southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula.

The movie tells the scary story of what happens after a young girl named Nevena is taken by a mythical, bloodthirsty woman named Old Maid Maria, also called the Wolf-Eater.

When Old Maid Maria turns Nevena into a shape-shifting witch, she starts killing villagers and finds out quickly that she can take on the identities of those she kills once they give in to her terrible powers.

6. Choose or Die

  • Director: Toby Meakins
  • Star casts: Iola Evans, Asa Butterfield, Robert Englund, Eddie Marsan, Joe Bolland, Angela Griffin.
  • IMDb rating: 4.8/10

Can video games cause death? Choose or Die is one of the 2022 Horror movies available on Netflix.

It’s about Kayla, a young student who just got fired and found an old video game from the 1980s.

At first, it seems like an ordinary find, but then she finds out that the winner will get $125,000.

Kayla starts to play the “Choose Your Own Adventure”-game with the help of her friend Isaac.

But after a series of scary events and the world starting to fall apart, Kayla and Isaac realize that what they’re doing isn’t a game.

7. Men

  • Director: Alex Garland
  • Star casts: Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, Paapa Essiedu, Sonoya Mizuno, Gayle Rankin, Kharmel Cochrane
  • IMDb rating: 6.5/10

Alex Garland’s latest nightmare is about how men control and trick women, and it’s all too true.

In “Men,” the brilliant Jessie Buckley plays a woman on vacation in the British countryside after her husband killed himself.

Unfortunately, she is surrounded by dozens of men who look like a shady Rory Kinnear.

Kinnear, who plays nearly all the other characters, gives them varying degrees of dislike for her.

Even though the movie doesn’t mention how men and women interact, a few unforgettable scenes turn the tension to 11.

With a very controversial and disgusting ending, it’s one of the 2022 horror movies on this list that’s meant to start more conversations with each new audience.

8. Watcher

  • Director: Chloe Okuno
  • Star casts: Maika Monroe, Burn Gorman, Karl Glusman, Madalina Anea, Daniel Nuta, Stefan Iancu
  • IMDb rating: 6.3/10

Another favorite on the list of 2022 horror movies. Watcher is written and directed by Chloe Okuno (who, fun fact, was the first choice to make “Bodies Bodies Bodies”).

A young American woman named Julia (Maika Monroe, a modern-day scream queen) moves to Bucharest with her husband (Karl Glusman).

While they are living in their new apartment, she thinks that Burn Gorman, the man who lives next door, is behind a string of violent murders in the city. Surprise, surprise, nobody believes her.

As Julia’s quest gets more serious, Okuno builds up the tension until it’s almost too much to handle, leading to a frantic ending.

“Watcher” is directed so well that it feels like a throwback to Brian De Palma’s movies from the 1980s, but with a strong feminist message.

If that makes “Watcher” sounds like the best movie ever, you’re in luck because it is.

9. Nope

  • Director: Jordan Peele
  • Star casts: Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, Brandon Perea, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, Barbie Ferreira
  • IMDb rating: 6.9/10

Based on the scary quality of Get Out and Us, Jordan Peele’s two previous horror movies, Nope, is expected to be one of the scariest 2022 horror movies.

The first trailer, which came out on Sunday, February 13, showed fans exactly that and gave them a look at the film’s strange plot.

The two-minute clip is mostly about the characters played by Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer.

There aren’t many specifics, but a dark, swirling cloud suggests that evil comes from somewhere else in the universe.

In other shots, Palmer, Kaluuya, and Steven Yeun’s characters are horrifiedly looking up at the sky. The last scene shows Palmer being thrown into the air.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea, and Michael Wincott are also in the cast.

10. Hypochondriac

  • Director: Addison Heimann
  • Star casts: Zach Villa, Paget Brewster, Madeline Zima, Devon Graye, Peter Mensah, Michael Cassidy
  • IMDb rating: 4.9/10

A24’s other low-budget horror movie that has been getting a lot of attention, “Men,” almost cut. However, “Bodies Bodies Bodies” is more exciting, witty, and current.

During a storm, Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Sennott, Maria Bakalova, and Pete Davidson are stuck in a house without power with a group of young adults who have had too much to drink and don’t have enough jobs.

The suspense and humor increase as they are killed off one by one. It’s a clever ode to the times we’re living in, when pain can kill across generations and sufferers are heroes. So turn off the lights and enjoy one of the best 2022 horror movies.

11. Bodies Bodies Bodies

  • Director: Halina Reijn
  • Star casts: Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Sennott, Pete Davidson, Maria Bakalovam, Lee Pace, Chase Sui Wonders
  • IMDb rating: 6.7/10

Will is a young Hispanic artist with a great job, a girlfriend who adores him, and a great group of friends.

But when Will’s mother suddenly comes back into his life, his dark past and early problems with mental illness startle him.

The movie also stars Paget Brewster, Zach Villa (Good Mourning, American Horror Story), Madeline Zima (Californication, You), Devon Graye, and Yumarie Morales (American Carnage) (Criminal Minds).

12. Orphan: First Kill

  • Director: William Brent Bell
  • Star casts: Isabelle Fuhrman, Julia Stiles, Matthew Finlan, Morgan Easton-Fitzgerald, Rossif Sutherland, Kennedy Irwin.
  • IMDb rating: 5.9/10

Warner Bros released the first “Orphan” in 2009. Leonardo DiCaprio produced it, and Jaume Collet-Serra, who will be a big name in Hollywood, was in charge of directing it.

Now, after more than a decade and a change of studio to Paramount, the prequel is finally here. “Orphan: First Kill” goes along for a while, as you might expect.

But just before the halfway point, a twist is so crazy that it throws the whole movie off track and makes it into a new, crazy, outré horror classic.

(Honestly, I like this better than “Malignant,” which is also a bit crazy.) “Orphan: First Kill” came out so quietly that it was easy to miss, but if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a must-see for those searching for 2022 horror movies.

13. The Invitation

  • Director: Jessica M. Thompson
  • Star casts: Thomas Doherty, Nathalie Emmanuel, Stephanie Corneliussen, Alana Boden, Hugh Skinner
  • IMDb rating: 5.2/10

Evie was able to make contact with a long-lost cousin. Because of this, she was asked to come to a family wedding in the English countryside. Naturally, Evie quickly concludes that she is the bride.

Still, before she does so, she is confronted with gloomy mysteries and terrifying customs. If you are a fan of scary movies, watch one of the best 2022 horror movies this list has to offer.

14. Hellraiser

  • Director: David Bruckner
  • Star casts: Jamie Clayton, Drew Starkey, Odessa A’zion, Brandon Flynn, Goran Visnjic, Aoife Hinds
  • IMDb rating: 6.9/10

Since 2006, many studios have tried to change “Hellraiser,” with or without Clive Barker’s permission.

Finally, a new horror franchise entry worth the wait on the list of 2022 horror movies. “Hellraiser” is a new story set in Clive Barker’s world.

It is not a remake of the 1987 film: puzzle box, Cenobites (some new, some old). Pinhead, the pain-addicted interdimensional ghoul, rules it all. Jamie Clayton from “Sense8” plays the role.

Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, who worked with David Bruckner on “Night House,” were in charge of making, directing, and writing this new “Hellraiser.” It’s a nice addition to the series and the start of a new bloody tale.

15. Spirit Halloween: The Movie

  • Director: David Poag
  • Star casts: Christopher Lloyd, Rachael Leigh Cook, Marissa Reyes, Donovan Colan, Dylan Frankel.
  • IMDb rating: 4.4/10

Everyone’s favorite pop-up shop for the holidays is now on the list of 2022 horror movies.

The movie follows three friends from middle school who spend Halloween night alone at an empty Ghost Halloween shop and discover that an evil spirit is operating the store’s eerie displays.

The movie stars Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Jaiden J. Smith, Rachel Leigh Cook,  Dylan Martin Frankel, Donovan Colon, and Marissa Reyes.

16. Halloween Ends

  • Director: David Gordon Green
  • Star casts: Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle
  • IMDb rating: 5.0/10

In the last part of this reboot trilogy, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode fight for the last time.

People think that Halloween Ends, which takes place four years after Halloween Kills, will show the end of Myers’ bloody reign.

But since he has survived multiple bullet and knife wounds and is thought to have supernatural powers, his death is not a sure thing.

The bloody fights between Laurie and Michael in the last trailer also seem to point in that direction.

The trailer also gives the impression that this could be Laurie’s end. She says, “Maybe the only way he can die is if I do too. You can find out by watching one of the scariest 2022 horror movies.

17. Prey for the Devil

  • Director: Daniel Stamm
  • Star casts: Jacqueline Byers, Christian Navarro, Colin Salmon, Nicholas Ralph, Ben Cross, Virginia Madsen
  • IMDb rating: 5.2/10

Sister Ann is taught the Catholic Church’s exorcism rite after receiving more reports of people being possessed by demons worldwide.

However, Sister Ann is put in a position where she must battle for her life when it seems that the same demon possesses the spirit of a little girl as her mother.

18. Dark Harvest

  • Director: David Slade
  • Star casts: Austin Autry, Emyri Crutchfield, Jeremy Davies, Maclean Fish, Nazariy Demkowicz, Megan Best.
  • IMDb rating: 4.7/10

This interesting movie on the list of 2022 horror movies is based on a book of the same name that came out in 2007. It was set in a quiet Midwestern town on Halloween night in 1963.

A phantom known as “October Boy” (also known as “Old Hacksaw Face” and “Sawtooth Jack”) emerges from Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who played paranormal investigators in the first three Conjuring movies and other franchise spinoffs, are likely to play the same characters in the sequel.

19. Smile

  • Director: Parker Finn
  • Star casts: Sosie Bacon, Kyle Gallner, Caitlin Stasey, Jessie T. Usher, Rob Morgan, Gillian Zinser.
  • IMDb rating: 6.7/10

“Smile” is smart, effective, and sometimes very scary, even if its trailer is not.

A young doctor named Sosie Bacon has a patient who kills themselves in front of her with a creepy grin on their face.

After researching, the young doctor realizes that suicide is part of a bigger pattern that has something to do with that creepy smile.

Yes, this is a movie made to scare kids at the mall on a Friday night, but it does that job well, thanks in large part to its dark tone, which is reminiscent of both “The Ring” and “Rosemary’s Baby.”This movie is a great pick on the 2022 horror movies.

20. Werewolf by Night

  • Director: Michael Giacchino
  • Star casts: Gael García Bernal, Harriet Sansom Harris, Laura Donnelly, Jez Butterworth, Ann Skelly.
  • IMDb rating: 7.2/10

Things get scary in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In “Werewolf by Night,” a mini-movie/TV special that lasts just under an hour, Gael Garcia Bernal plays the main character, who is drawn to a creepy mansion to hunt down a scary monster.

So many questions make this movie one of the top 2022 horror movies. Why are the other hunters after the animal? How will he get out of this without them finding his horrible secret? It starts as a monster mash and ends up becoming a cemetery smash.

It’s part locked-door mystery and part exciting Marvel adventure (obviously). The first real horror movie in the MCU is a bloody good time, thanks to director Michael Giacchino’s use of black-and-white filming and many more scary moments.

It makes you want several more specials starring Werewolf by Night and whatever other Marvel monster Giacchino decides to saddle him with.

21. You Won’t Be Alone

  • Director: Goran Stolevski
  • Star casts: Noomi Rapace, Alice Englert, Sara Klimoska, Anamaria Marinca, Carloto Cotta
  • IMDb rating: 6.3/10

This movie is another Sundance hit that is even more strange than “Resurrection.” “You Won’t Be Alone,” a movie directed by Macedonian-Australian director Goran Stolevski.

This movie is about a young woman in Macedonia in the 19th century who, a witch, changes into a creature that can change its shape.

The young girl changes into a different person and lives their life. (Sometimes, the movie feels more like a collection of short stories than a straight, linear story.) And as the movie goes on, it puts you under its spell.

The movie is about what it means to be a person and how hard that is. It is unforgettable and unique. It has a naturalistic style and a cameo from genre legend Noomi Rapace.

Its closest relative is probably “The Witch” by Robert Eggers. If you want 2022 horror movies on this that are both scary and touching, this is the film for you.

22. Sick

  • Director: John Hyams
  • Star casts: Gideon Adlon, Marc Menchaca, Dylan Sprayberry, Jane Adams, Charla Bocchicchio, Bethlehem Million.
  • IMDb rating: 6.2/10

It’s one of the top 2022 horror movies, so we’re posting it here to get people talking about it. Parker (Gideon Adlon, whose sisters were in “Hellraiser” and “Scream”) and Miri (Bethlehem Million) were quarantined at Parker’s parents’ lake mansion in April 2020, where a mask-wearing sadist follows them there.

Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original “Scream,” co-authored it, and John Hyams directed it. “Sick” is the finest thing out there, maybe because of the epidemic.

23. Bones and All

  • Director: Luca Guadagnino
  • Star casts: Timothée Chalamet, Taylor Russell, Mark Rylance, Chloë Sevigny, Michael Stuhlbarg, Madeleine Hall
  • IMDb rating: 7.2/10

In 2018, Luca Guadagnino remade the classic horror film Suspiria. Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet play star-crossed lovers in Reagan-era America in this film from the director.

They’re both cannibals who consume humans. What should have been an adventurous coming-of-age story becomes a killers-on-the-run tale with otherworldly touches, equal parts “Badlands” and “Near Dark.”

It’s mesmerizing and makes you feel a lot, and the young actors carry much of the movie’s emotional power.

Deep down, they’ve simply messed up kids.  Some may find “Bones and All” slow, while others, sensitive to the brutality, will find it stomach-churning.

For me, it’s a magnificent accomplishment, full of energy, and one of the top 2022 horror movies.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ soundtrack and ’80s needle drops are also great.

24. Speak No Evil

  • Director: Christian Tafdrup
  • Star casts: Sidsel Siem Koch, Fedja van Huêt, Karina Smulders, Morten Burian, Liva Forsberg, Marius Damslev
  • IMDb rating: 6.6/10

A comedy of manners turns into one of the saddest 2022 horror movies when two Danish and Dutch families meet on vacation and get together at the Dutch family’s house to break out of a rut.

As polite disagreements and cultural misunderstandings worsen, the gathering gets less comfortable.

With claustrophobic direction by Christian Tafdrup and a smart, cruel script by his brother Mads, the tension is built and released to several breaking points, with a final scene that will make you cancel your next trip.

25. X

  • Director: Ti West
  • Star casts: Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Kid Cudi, Stephen Ure, Martin Henderson.
  • IMDb rating: 6.8/10

Ti West, one of the most interesting horror directors working today, is back on the big screen with his first scary movie since “The Sacrament” in 2013. The wait was worth it.

A “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remix in which a van full of pornographers, including Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, and Scott Mescudi, secretly film their next movie at the guest house of a conservative old couple.

West’s command of his material and ability to play with the audience’s expectations make this one of the most fun rides of the year.

26. Resurrection

  • Director: Andrew Semans
  • Star casts: Rebecca Hall, Tim Roth, Grace Kaufman, Angela Wong Carbone, Michael Esper, Winsome Brown.
  • IMDb rating: 5.9/10

Andrew Semans wrote and directed this strange and scary revenge movie.

Rebecca Hall plays a woman whose life starts to fall apart when she starts to see her abusive ex (a charming and dangerous Tim Roth) around her Albany neighborhood.

Hall’s performance is scary because she is in control until she quickly loses it. How many of us could lose everything if our center of gravity was slightly off?

The movie is pretty cold for most of it, but the end, which is bloody and crazy, turns it into grand Guignol, which is a devilishly literal way to show how sad the leads are.

The hazy, overlit last shot, somewhere between a dream and a nightmare, is very sad and will stay in people’s minds long after the credits roll.

27. Barbarian

  • Director: Zach Cregger
  • Star casts: Bill Skarsgård, Justin Long, Georgina Campbell, Matthew Patrick Davis, Zach Cregger.
  • IMDb rating: 7.1/10

Zach Cregger’s first movie in the genre is “Barbarian.” The film’s teaser trailer is interesting and doesn’t give away any of the movie’s many surprises.

To say that Tess (Georgina Campbell, who is just trying to find a safe place to stay while she is in Detroit for a job interview, has had a hard time would be an understatement.

Things escalate from bad to worse for Tess. An alumnus of sketch comedy, Cregger has a passion for the horror genre.

He knows how to use the audience’s expectations to surprise them in unique ways while keeping the rhythm of the film’s different acts consistent.

“Barbarian” will be a must-see every year around Halloween because it combines new fears with old horror tricks. This is one of the best 2022 horror movies.

28. Crimes of the Future

  • Director: David Cronenberg
  • Star casts: Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, Scott Speedman, Lihi Kornowski, Tanaya Beatty.
  • IMDb rating: 7.7/10

Strangely, David Cronenberg’s latest body horror movie wasn’t as gross as it was made out to be.

Still, it had much more to do with the legend’s other strange traits than anyone could have expected.

Viggo Mortensen plays a man who grows extra organs in a future Earth that has been destroyed. His partner, played by Léa Seydoux, removes them for captive audiences.

Things become complicated once the government starts to get involved, and we’re introduced to a world of superfans (including a wacky Kristen Stewart), assassins, and children who eat plastic trash cans.

Cronenberg keeps the action as cold and clinical as his characters, and long stretches of dialogue emphasize the film’s artificial sheen in a way that is both fascinating and unsettling.

Those who can tap into Cronenberg’s wavelength will be richly rewarded. Grab a drink and watch one of the top 2022 horror movies.
