There is always something new to watch; from stories of possession, murder, and zombie outbreaks to psychological thrillers, nearly every aspect of the genre is covered.

These are some of the best scary movies on Hulu. Please read on.

You Are Not My Mother (2022)

Ingeniously lensed movies like You Are Not My Mother explore a world in which our parents are not who we think they are.

This Irish horror movie from 2021 centers on Char (Hazel Doupe), her grandmother (Ingrid Craigie), and Char’s mother, Angela (Carolyn Bracken), who has mysteriously vanished.

When Angela first appeared, she was not the same parent Char had known all her life. It’s Char’s responsibility to figure out what happened to her mother before she is all but lost to whatever evils have been visited upon her because she is displaying frightening new behaviors and unsettling thoughts and emotions.

Also, you Are Not My Mother, Kate Dolan’s astounding feature film debut, is a bizarre, almost folkloric setting and atmosphere where nearly every flavor of the ear is possible.

Little Monsters (2019)

Do you recall the elementary school field trip where legions of the undead surrounded you and your classmates? If you managed to avoid such madness when you were younger, consider yourself lucky.

The kindergarten class in Abe Forsythe’s 2019 film Little Monsters isn’t so fortunate. The horror/romcom hybrid follows the unlikely trio of adults and Miss Caroline’s students as they struggle to defend themselves against zombies that have escaped a nearby government facility.

Lupita Nyong’o leads the cast as kindergarten teacher Miss Caroline, Alexander England as washed-up famous musician Dave, and Josh Gad as television personality Teddy McGiggles.

Little Monsters is a fantastic summer movie that assures the viewing world that zombies still have a significant place in horror cinema.

It is full of heart and soul, laugh-out-loud moments, and a healthy supply of B-movie gore. This is one of the best scary movies on Hulu.

Prometheus (2012)

The controversial filmmaker Ridley Scott, known for creating movies with strong sci-fi themes like Alien and Blade Runner, created the polarizing horror epic Prometheus.

With the focus on the crew of the titular spacecraft who discover ancient coordinates that could reveal the very beginnings of humanity as we know it, Prometheus features sci-fi as a significant plot element once more.

Instead, the cosmonauts, guided by the scientists Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) and Shaw (Noomi Rapace), find something much more evil and influential in the universe’s furthest reaches.

However, Prometheus never holds back, delivering massive set pieces, eye-popping visuals, and complex narrative threads that might not resonate with all viewers.

Fresh (2022)

Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who had vowed never to date, meets Steve (Sebastian Stan). He is the alluring partner she has been searching for.

That is until she discovers he is a cannibal who runs a side business selling women’s body parts to other cannibals.

Then, Noa must learn how to avoid being eaten, even if doing so means giving in to Steve’s adoration of her. Fresh’s original perspective on the perils and horrors of modern dating skillfully balances empowerment and unease.

It can be difficult to tell whether Noa truly cares for Steve or is acting sincerely because Daisy Edgar-Jones so expertly captures her subtleties.

Additionally, Sebastian Stan makes Steve appealing despite revealing his insane pastimes. This is one of the best scary movies for Hulu.

Spree (2020)

Prepare to see Steve from Stranger Things in a new light as he turns into the monster rather than avoiding them. In this comedy-horror, Joe Keery plays Kurt, a rideshare driver who aspires to become famous on social media.

To achieve this, he starts live-streaming himself, killing his passengers to gain popularity. Keery delivers a powerful performance, expertly walking the line between sincere and evil.

Body At The Brighton Rock (2019)

As her part-time park ranger job for the summer draws to a close, Wendy (Karina Fontes) decides to prove her worth by taking on one last assignment that will send her deep into the enigmatic backcountry of the forest.

Also, wendy is alone in the wilderness, and her final task becomes a nightmare when she discovers a body. She is instructed to stay with the body until the police show up after using her radio to call for assistance.

Sadly, a single night spent under the dense coniferous canopy quickly turns out to be much more than Wendy had anticipated.

Body at Brighton Rock utilizes the audio-visual components of the “stranded in the woods” subgenre. Also, it effectively employs a variety of Mother Nature clichés, such as branches breaking and ferocious animals.

Little Joe (2019)

Emily Beecham plays Alice in Little Joe, a film about a botanist who creates a new species of flower and names it “Little Joe” in honor of her son.

Little Joe’s pollen has been carefully designed to make people happy when they come into contact with it. But this scientific arousal of emotions quickly spirals out of control.

Before her creation’s deadly reign of euphoria cripples the neighborhood, Alice must devise a solution to deal with it as its influence starts to cause people to act crazy.

Little Joe is a brilliant work of genre filmmaking that demonstrates how far you can go with a singularly compelling concept and a tight budget. It is a lo-fi blending of horror and sci-fi. This is one of the best scary movies available on Hulu if you wish to watch one.

The Resort (2021)

Four attractive young friends travel to Hawaii for one of their birthdays to take in the breathtaking scenery.

While on vacation, the quad insists on visiting a deserted resort that the locals’ claim is haunted. To satisfy their curiosity about the legendary Half-Faced Girl, the four continue their investigation into ghost claims.

With its vast and exotic settings, Taylor Chien’s The Resort, a movie he both wrote and directed, is simply magnificent. It perfectly captures the pulse-pounding terror these characters must experience on the island.

Furthermore, The Resort, starring Bianca Haase, Michelle Randolph, Michael Vlamis (Roswell, New Mexico), and Brock O’Hurn (The Righteous Gemstones), vividly depicts the classic and consistently spooky subgenres that fans of the best scary movies on Hulu adore.

Unsane (2018)

Unsane is another example of why Steven Soderbergh is still one of the most original and unexpected filmmakers working today. It tells the horrible tale of a woman who is institutionalized against her will.

There, Sawyer faces her greatest dread that threatens to swallow her whole if she doesn’t run. Claire Foy’s commanding performance as the character constantly tries to persuade those around her of the dangers she is facing, only to be ignored as the movie’s focal point.

Everything is so perfectly tuned in Soderbergh’s simple iPhone cinematography that it will make you think you’re going crazy. You are completely taken in by the claustrophobia of this movie’s setting.

Drag Me To Hell (2009)

Sam Raimi is at his most insane in the bloody and generally disgusting horror film Drag Me To Hell, which is available on Hulu.

Also, it is breathtaking to watch in all the insane cinematic highs and darker, more depraved lows it achieves.

The main character is Christine, portrayed by Alison Lohman, a loan officer who places a curse on herself by evicting an older woman from her home.

Given that she only has a limited window of opportunity to save her soul before being—you guessed it—transported to hell, she sets out on a desperate journey filled with horrifying frights.

Also, Christine’s experiences in the film aren’t hilarious, but Lohman still gives a compelling performance.

Black Swan (2010)

Darren Aronofsky’s style is undoubtedly not for everyone. The unconventional filmmaker likes to push viewers outside of their comfort zones, and his 2010 film Black Swan is perplexing on both a sensory and emotional level.

Interestingly, Natalie Portman won the Best Actress Oscar for her superb performance as Nina, a young ballerina selected to play the lead role in Swan Lake. Nina struggles to accept her dark side to play the titular “black swan.”

The dancing passages are choreographed by Aronofsky with a surprising amount of elegance, and it’s a phenomenal physical performance. Prepare to be stunned, perplexed, and amazed. This is one of the best scary movies on Hulu.

Oculus (2013)

Known for his work in the horror genre, writer-director Mike Flanagan is known for such films as Hush, Midnight Mass, and The Haunting of Hill House series. And it all started in 2013 with the debut of the beautiful movie Oculus.

The story revolves around Kaylie and Tim, two siblings ten years after their parents’ passing, and is portrayed by Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites.

Kaylie and Tim surmise that a family heirloom mirror may have been the murder weapon. They discover that their suspicions may be correct when the evil mirror begins contaminating the thoughts of those who gaze into it. Additionally, Oculus will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Depraved (2019)

Since no one has recently presented a novel interpretation of the Frankenstein story, we’re happy to announce that Larry Fessenden, a pillar of the genre, has fulfilled our longings.

Depraved, starring David Call as Henry, a PTSD-afflicted field surgeon forced to assemble a “monster” out of various human limbs and bits, transposes the rural Swiss hills for the vibrant streets of Brooklyn.

However, “Adam” (Alex Breaux) is brought to life after securing the brain. Still, Henry ought to have foreseen the difficulties in educating his new creation about how to survive in the all-too-real world of life after death.

In Fessenden’s Depraved, a surprisingly high emotional gravity is on display, making for several compelling forays into the shared world of the B-movie madness meets lofi drama.

The Field Guide To Evil (2018)

Eight different folkloric-influenced genre stories are collected in the international anthology film The Field Guide to Evil.

Peter Strickland, Severin Fiala, and Veronika Franz are notable writers/directors, with each segmented novella horror offering an homage to a significant mythological terror (Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge).

Even though not every quick hit is as powerful as the last, the mixed bag ultimately lands in “glass half-full” territory, with plenty to brag about in terms of vision and execution. One of Hulu’s best scary movies is this one.

Held (2020)

Held’s Emma and Henry Barrett, a married couple seeking to resolve some of their numerous conflicts, are portrayed by Jill Awbrey and Bart Johnson.

When Emma and Henry decide that their rental host, a sentient voice that communicates through the home’s automated ecosystem, is aware of several intimate details about their marriage and is keeping an eye on them at all times, their idyllic retreat quickly turns into a sinister game of cat-and-mouse.

Also, films like Panic Room and other single-location horror-thrillers are referenced in Held, which tells a recognizable tale that improves in the third act. You won’t regret waiting for the reveal, so hang around.

Sea Fever (2020)

In the movie Sea Fever, Hermione Corfleid plays Siobhán, a marine biology intern who spends several days on a fish trawler for her studies.

The real struggle is with mysterious aquatic devastation surrounding the isolated vessel, while Siobhán struggles to connect with most of the crew.

Moreover, it’s only a matter of time before everyone perishes from the oceanic plague as what seems to be an awful infection starts spreading from one shipmate to the next.

The metaphors and allegories in Sea Fever are delivered in a slow-burning, atmospheric manner that will keep you glued watching your TV screen from beginning to end. Also, it is the perfect commentary on the current state of global health.

Agnes (2021)

In the terrifying horror film Agnes, directed by Mickey Reece, religious zeal reaches new heights. An investigative priest and his apprentice are dispatched to the isolated convent to look into the phenomenon after a sister of faith starts exhibiting unfortunate tendencies. However, as evil grows more powerful, not even the priesthood’s good intentions can stop the demonic problems from erupting. Agnes, an atmospheric tale of terror, makes excellent use of its modest budget and keeps audiences on their seats the entire time. This is one of the best scary movies on Hulu.

The Nightingale (2018)

The Nightingale movie is not an easy film to watch. The graphic, relentless depictions of attack make it challenging to manage.

However, if you can handle it, it’s a significant and worthwhile experience with excellent acting, stunning photography, and a compelling story of a young woman and her terrible desire for vengeance.

The film is both Jennifer Kent’s follow-up to The Babadook and Aisling Franciosi’s breakthrough role; both are unquestionably ones to watch out for.

False Positive (2021)

From Lucy’s (Ilana Glazer) perspective, False Positive is a feminist portrayal of the worries of being pregnant and a mother making her feel more uneasy. Dr

Hindle (Pierce Brosnan), the top fertility doctor in New York and Adrian’s former teacher, schedules a consultation with the wife Lucy and her husband Adrian after two years of trying to conceive (Justin Theroux). After receiving treatment from Dr. Hindle, Lucy became pregnant with triplets.

Unfortunately, to maintain the pregnancy’s viability and Lucy’s health, Dr. Hindle advises a selective reduction in which they keep either the female embryo or the twin male embryos.

After receiving this treatment, Lucy starts to feel anxious and suspicious due to her pregnancy. Even though many people around her dismiss her concerns as the result of “pregnancy brain,” she is convinced Adrian and Dr. Hindle are conspiring to harm her, and she will stop at nothing to prove it.

Gaia (2021)

In Gaia, directed by Jaco Bouwer, Monique Rockman plays the title role of a dislocated forest ranger who suffers an injury at work.

When Gaia learns that the father and son who saved her are followers of a seductive and mythical presence hiding deep in the woods, her problems only worsen. Or is everything in their minds? Gaia is a spooky, hallucinatory movie that will get under your skin and stay there for weeks.

Willy’s Wonderland

With lead roles in eccentric movies like Mandy and Color Out of Space, Nicholas Cage has recently emerged as the unheralded king of B-list horror movies.

The imposing Cage plays an unnamed protagonist in Willy’s Wonderland who decides to work as a janitor for one night to pay for car repairs. However, an army of animatronic enemies that wage war on Nomadic Nick is something he does not anticipate.

However, the man must fight for his life to see the sunrise, armed with whatever he can find. Willy’s Wonderland is a bizarre parody of the Five Nights at Freddy’s video game series and is a ton of Nicolas Cage-fueled, off-kilter fun. This is one of the best scary movies on Hulu.

The Feast (2021)

Nobody anticipates the dread and dangers that will come with the appearance of the evening’s dinner hostess when a wealthy family congregates at a remote Welsh estate for an evening of small talk and business dealings with local community members.

The third act of bombastic proportions marks the culmination of The Feast’s painstakingly deliberate (and we mean that in a good way) ratcheting up the tension. You won’t want to miss it, we promise.

Come True (2020)

Over the past few years, the dreamscape subgenre has seen many entries, from action-packed epics like Inception to tantalizing, psychological identity crisis films like Possessor.

Come True, a low-budget adaptation of the expansive dreamscape genre that innovatively and unexpectedly combines horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, was created by writer-director Anthony Scott Burns.

Our narrative centers on Sarah (Julia Sarah Stone), a person plagued by intense nightmares who consents to a sleep study to understand the source of her somnambulistic demons. However, as the tests get underway, Sarah’s sleep-deprived hell starts to spill over into her waking hours.

Hunter Hunter (2021)

Hunter Hunter by writer-director Shawn Linden is a taut horror-thriller that epitomizes the phrase “never venture into the woods.”

The clan believes a wolf is to blame when a family of fur trappers loses their livelihood. Also, the family is left to fend for themselves in their isolated outpost when the father, Joseph, sets out to hunt down the beast. Then Lou (Nick Stahl), an injured man, shows up, and things quickly turn bizarre.

Hunter Hunter is a fantastic little film with a slow-burning strategy that will satisfy most fans of the genre.

We Need To Do Something (2021)

Being trapped in the bathroom during a post-apocalyptic fallout is never fun, especially when your mom, dad, and younger brother are also there.

Teenage Melissa (Sierra McCormick) struggles to deal with her family’s disintegrating dynamic after a devastating storm in the movie. We Need to Do Something.

However, Melissa and the rest of her family must use every resource at their disposal to survive until help arrives as elements of the outside world begin slithering their way into the home.

Will it ever, though? We Need to Do Something is a taut closed-door chiller that will cause you to rethink where you run during the next storm.

The Other Lamb (2020)

Selah (Raffey Cassidy) has spent her entire life up to this point in a polygamist cult in a remote area of the world. But as she develops into a woman, the teen begins to wonder about the Shepherd (Michiel Huisman), the commune’s leader, who also happens to have a special affection for young Selah.

The Other Lamb is an excellent work of horror that you won’t soon forget, with solid performances and an otherworldly tone that combines solitude with surrealistic flashes.
